Enhancing Tirana’s fire emergency services

Japanese Embassy in Albania donates two fire trucks to Tirana Municipality

As part of its efforts to enhance emergency services in Albania Help in Albania donated two fire trucks to the Municipality of Tirana in February 2023.  Tirana’s Fire Protection Service covers the capital city and the rural periphery areas servicing over 790,000 local inhabitants.  As well as fighting fires in residential areas in recent years Tirana has faced the increased threat posed by wildfires which have become an increasing phenomenon during the long hot summer months throughout the country.

The donated fire trucks joined Tirana’s Fire Protection Services fleet of mobile firefighting vehicles and will enhance its rapid responses capacity.  The donated fire trucks were refitted and modernised in Japan before being shipped to Albania.  Help in Albania’s donation was made possible with funding from the Japanese Government and facilitated by the Japanese Embassy in Tirana.

The donated fire trucks were officially handed to the Municipality of Tirana at a ceremony held at Tirana’s Fire Station No.4 in February 2023.  His Excellency Mr Takada Mitsuyuki, Ambassador of Japan, Mr Erion Veliaj, Mayor of Tirana, and Mr Shkëlqim Goxhaj, Director of Tirana’s Fire Protection Services all attended along with Help in Albania staff.
